Microsoft has caught Outlook mobile up with the rest of the world in the ability to edit contacts from within the app. Yay! 🙂
More details here:
A few thoughts on this:
- If you already have the native contacts app syncing with your Outlook\Office 365\Whatever account, if you turn on Contact sync in Outlook, you will end up with duplicate contacts. Granted, the OS will likely link them automatically, but it’s an important thing to note and understand.
- If you choose to enable this contact copy, and now that you will be able to edit your contacts from within Outlook, it might make sense to turn off any contact syncing from the native Contacts app. This means all of your contact management can and should happen all from within Outlook. The native app will only be for reference, caller id, texts, etc…
- I think this makes the Outlook mobile story a lot more compelling now. Between the ability to see shared calendars, a much improved mail readability, and now contact syncing, there is really very little reason to use any other mail client to access Office 365\Outlook (or Gmail ;-)…)
